INDIAN GENERAL SERVICE MEDAL NWF 1908 TO PTE WHITFORD NORTHUMBERLAND FUSILIERS. Correctly engraved 7367 Pte W Whitford 1st, Bn North'd Fus Condition EF ( official correction to 1st) William Whitford was born in Dipton, County Durham in 1882. He attested in 1900 as an eighteen-year-old Miner. In the earlier years of his service, he was imprisoned twice for Desertion and Drunkenness. Whitford earned the General Service Medal with clasp North West Frontier 1908 with the 1st Bn. During the Great War, he landed in France & Flanders on 12th November 1914. In 1916 he was posted to India and discharged in March 1919. Also entitled to a 1914 Star Trio.
