1914 STAR TO A ROYAL NAVAL DIVISION GALLIPOLI CASUALTY 105652 W HORNSBY STO 1CL HOOD BTTN RD Walter Hornsby was born on March 24th 1887, in Hull, Yorkshire. He joined the Royal Navy on 11th August 1907 serving as a Stoker. Hornsby was transferred to the Royal Fleet Reserve in 1912 and found employment with the North Eastern Railway company in 1913, working for the Dock Engineers Department in Hull as a fireman on board the dredger David Dale. During the Great War, he served with the Hood Battalion, Royal Naval Divison. He was sadly killed in action at Gallipoli on 4th June 1915 and is remembered on the Helles Memorial.
