THE BRITISH WAR MEDAL AND LONG SERVICE IN THE VOLUNTEER FORCE MEDAL PAIR, awarded to Lieutenant Samuel John Best, 7th Baron Wynford, Swing mounted as worn with miniatures. EF Condition British War Medal correctly impressed - Lieut The Hom S J Best RNVR, LSGC correctly engraved - Vol The Hon'ble S J Best 1st Bn C V Rifles Samuel John Best as born on 24th June 1874, the second son of the George Best 5th Baron Wynford. A member of the Calcutta Volunteer Rifles. During the Great War, he served with the Royal Navy Volunteer Reserves; it is believed he was involved in delivering important despatches. Commissioned in July 1916, resigning his commission six months later. He passed away on 29th August 1943. Provenance: Private Collection, Dorset Sold to benefit Help for Heroes
