MIDSHIPMAN'S NAVAL DIRK TO CAPTAIN GORDON REINHOLD BALD (1895-1956): Bald was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 15th May 1906. A Torpedo officer, during the Great War he served as Lieutenant Commander on HMS Vernon and HMS Resolution. He served until 1931 when he was placed on the retired list at his own request with the rank of Captain. He was recalled during the Second world War, assisting the Director of Torpedoes and Mines.
