•AFTER FRANCIS BACON (1909-1992) 'Head VI' a bust-length view of a man enclosed within a glass cage structure, screaming in silence, colour print, inscribed verso "Francis Bacon, For Carol - Velazquez's portrait of Pope Innocent X" and then further inscribed "Deliver to 7 Reece Mews, London, SW7 3HE", 93cm x 76cm Francis Bacon's 'Head VI' was the last of six panels making up his 1949 'Head' series. Head VI was the first of Bacon's paintings to reference Velazquez, whose portrait of Pope Innocent X haunted him throughout his career and inspired his series of 'Screaming Popes" 7 Reece Mews was Bacon's home and studio from October 1961 until his death.
