A RARE COMMONWEALTH OAK JOINED BOX-STOOL, circa 1650, the square lid apparently retaining the original wire hinges and with a double-moulded edge, the frieze carved in relief with strapwork panels, on turned and squared legs joined by channelled stretchers, 15.75" wide Literature: Illustrated by Tobias Jellinek in "Early British Chairs and Seats" 1500-1700" as plate 350, page 257 where the author refers to the stool as 'rare and excellent".
