MAREVNA (1892-1984) 'The Friends of Montparnasse' cubist group portrait, signed and dated 1961, oil on canvas, 63.25" x 120.5" This work depicts Marevna with her contemporaries and friends during her time in Paris. From left to right: Diego Rivera, Marevna and her daughter Marika, (fathered Diego Rivera) Ilya Ehrenburg, Chaim Soutine, Amedeo Modigliani and his wife Jeanne Hébuterne, Max Jacob, Moise Kisling and Léopold Zborowski Marevna originally painted three versions in this style to commemorate her friends in the Parisian art world during the WWI and the 1920's. this is the fourth and final painting that was produced for her family and includes a model on the top right of the picture between Jacob and Zbrowski, who was a friend of the artist.
