MAREVNA (1892-1984) "M. et Mme Zetlin, La Rotonde Café, Paris" signed and dated 1916, pencil on paper, 8.5" x 6.75" An early example of drawing at a very hard time for artists in Paris. midway through WWI with food in short supply in the city and artists having little money for it, portraits were executed in exchange for food and drinks in cafes across the city. This picture, torn from a sketch book, is an example of one of these 'meal tickets'
