A BISCUIT-COLOURED STONEWARE WINE COOLER, circa 1847, by Charles Meigh, with a domed cover surmounted by two young children sitting back to back with their arms locked together, the rim moulded with a vine over bacchanalian masks alternating with bunches of grapes, the cylindrical body moulded with bacchanalian scene, with entwined vine branch side handles inhabited by putti, 19" high This wine cooler bears a label in the interior of the lid inscribed "Art Journal" 1857 (ex cat page 45) (illustrated) Exhibited: Apparently exhibited at The Great Exhibition in 1851.
