A BLUE AND WHITE 'THREE FRIENDS' STEM BOWL, JINTAI PERIOD (1428-1457), the upper bowl section with gently rounded sides and an everted rim, the exterior sparsely decorated with The Three Friends of Winter in a cloud-capped mountain landscape, the interior well with a flower spray within a double circle, the tall cylindrical stem decorated with lappet and scroll bands, , 17.1cm dia, 11.5cm high; original Tibetan basketwork case. Provenance: Anthony Gray, London 15th June, 1984. Exhibited: The World in Blue and White, Oriental Ceramic Society Exhibition 2003, No. 51 Porcelain for Emperors, The London Asian Art Fair, June 2003, No. 9. Note: this stem bowl has been inspected by Professor Liu Xinyuan of the Jingdezhen Ceramic Institute who confirmed that the luting of the bowl to the stem and the glaze are consistent with excavated examples from the Jingtai strata at Zhushan.
