WW2 RAF CASUALTY GROUP TO FLYING OFFICER FLETCHER 37 SQUADRON Awarded to 134677 F/O N J Fletcher RAF Box of issue ( no condolence slip) 39/45, Africa Star, Italy Star, Defence and War Original documents, including telegrams stating he was missing and eventual confirmation of his unfortunate death with original pictures. Norman John Fletcher was born in Wellington, Shropshire on 1st May 1919. In civilian life he worked for the Post Office starting when he left School in 1936. During WW2 he was commissioned into the RAF and served as a Flying Officer Navigator on 37 Squadron. The Squadron at the time of his death operated Wellington Bombers. Norman was sadly killed in action when his aircraft Wellington HZ310 was shot down during a bombing mission. Parachutes were seen leaving the aircraft after it was it hit, however Norman and Flight Sgt Cyril Smith were sadly killed. The remainder of the crew it seems were taken prisoner. Tragically from the telegrams it can be seen that his death was not confirmed until a few years later.
