TAXIDERMY TIGER'S HEAD mounted on an oak shield, 48cm x 55cm Provenance: From the JV Beale Collection of Indian artefacts. JV Beale, who worked for Manton & Co. Gunmakers of Calcutta, opened his own gun shop in Winchester upon his return from India in the mid-1930's and the tiger's head was on display in the main showroom where it stayed until the 1960's. Manton & Co. was established in 1825 at 13 Old Courthouse Street, Calcutta.
