ANDRE DUNOYER DE SEGONZAC (1884-1974) An interior scene for the book 'Bubu de Montparnasse' stamped verso, etching on paper, the image 26cm x 22cm; together with a folio of printed material relating to the Artist, some with dedications to Vincent Lines, correspondence between the two artists, a handwritten essay by Lines on Dunoyer de Segonzac, newspaper clippings and a photographic reproduction of a portrait of Dunoyer de Segonzac by Lines, with an original price list for the exhibition it featured in (a lot) André Dunoyer de Segonzac (1884-1974) was a French painter and etcher, born in Boussy Saint Antoine. Though his parents hoped he would take up a career with the military, they allowed him to pursue his interest in drawing which saw him enrol at the Académie de la Grande Chaumière, the Académie Colarossi and the progressive Académie de La Palette. He also spent some time in military service and was drafted during World War I where he earned the Croix de Guerre. Taking influence from his time in the military, André produced a number of war drawings and took up etching so he could illustrate Wooden Crosses by Roland Dorgelès. Along with creating numerous etchings, the artist painted regularly, including with the Salon des Indépendants and the Salon d'Automne. De Segonzac was awarded First Prize at the 1933 Pittsburgh International and the main prize for painting at the 1934 Venice Biennale.
