PAINTED AND PARCEL GILTWOOD CHIMNEYPIECE, circa 1930, in the Chinoiserie manner of the Art Deco Oriental style, the associated disc finial carved in high relief with dragons chasing pearls, within a stylised bamboo border, the supporting spandrels and main frieze decorated with figures and pavilions in landscapes above vacant graduated side jambs, the concave inner edge with conforming painted and parcel gilt decoration; with marble panels to the fireplace interior and marble hearth (disassembled and with later adaptations), c.225cm high (including hearth and disc finial) x 182cm wide; the aperture 83cm high x 111cm wide Note: The circular aperture at the top was originally conceived to take a Chinese celadon platter, (sadly not extant) as can be seen in the photograph of the chimneypiece in-situ Provenance: The Mount, Sutton Coldfield, (demolished 1958/1959)
