The secretaire section of the piece is in fair condition. There are numerous losses and damage to the veneer as well as scratching and scuffing to the surface. There is noticeable cracking to the top drawer and also to the top surface, and some areas of trim are missing or damaged. The drawer handles are likely a later addition with the lowest left one being broken; all desk drawers retain their knobs, though these are also likely a mixture of later replacements (larger drawer has matched handles). All locks are intact, though no key is present.
The bookcase section is in good condition with some surface marking, scuffing and scratching commensurate with its age and use. All stringing appears to be present and original, as does the inlaid top decoration. There is a small loss to the moulding on the top right hand side at the back. It appears that veneer has been repaired around the hinge site on the doors, suggesting the hinges may have been replaced; the right hand door does not properly close. All glass is intact and appears original. There is no key present.
