A VERY LARGE VINTAGE ENAMEL SIGN FOR ‘FRISBY’S BOOTS & SHOES, 13 & 15 MARKET PLACE, BLANDFORD’

white lettering on red ground, in pine slip frame, 299 x 126cm

Note: Joseph Frisby founded his shoe business in Leicester in 1873, with a ‘Southern’ arm of the business initiated by his brother William who moved to Dorchester in 1880. Frisby’s remained an independent shoe shop until 1982, when it was purchased by Ward White for £6m. (NOTE: LARGE SIZE, AND VERY HEAVY)

This sign has enamel chipping and rusting to the left and right vertical lines of fixing holes, together with some scratching and other damage throughout. 

The sign also has two rectangular sections cut away, respectively at the top right and bottom right of the sign, 

The top and bottom margins are rusted and chipped.

The pine slip frame is of rustic quality and is lacking the bottom edge.
