GEORGE III MAHOGANY LONGCASE CLOCK

Condition Report: click here
Estimate: £400 - £600
Hammer price: £400
Bidding ended. Lot has been sold.
by John Purden, London, the case with arched trunk door above a square plinth, the hood with pagoda top, the brass arched dial with strike/silent to the arch, silvered chapter ring with Roman and Arabic numerals, subsidiary seconds dial, date aperture and two train eight day movement striking on a bell

The item bears the usual minor scuffs and knocks, overall consistent with age and use. The front and sides of the base section of the trunk are all detached, but present. The case will need to be restored. The cheeks appear to be later and the movement/dial might be associated to the case. The top of the hood is scuffed and worn through in places. A brass grille is missing from the front of the hood, as are two urn finials. The condition of the movement will need to be checked by a specialist horologist, but it appears to be in perfectly satisfactory shape. A pendulum and two weights are present.
