A ROMAN MARBLE HEAD OF A YOUTH

Probably 2nd century AD,
the head turned slightly to dexter, with tightly curled hair, on a turned dark metal column support, set into a square pedestal on a square plinth, 31 cm high (excluding base)

Provenance: Acquired by the present owner from an old private collection, Hampshire, in the late 1960's.

There are the inevitable minor dents, marks, scratches and shrinkage cracks due to age and use. As note din the cataloguing, the hair is slightly rubbed, the nose is largely lacking. There is a 6 cm. wide horizontal gouge at the rear of the head, filled with a dark paste. The front of the head with a slightly sandy coloured surface.
