A WORCESTER FLUTED FANCY TEACUP AND SAUCER

circa 1778-82, painted in columns, each with an exotic bird before a tree in the Duvivier style, the interior of the cup and the border of the saucer each with three-quarter trellis panels with double puce swags between, 13.2cm diameter

Provenance: Hugh Langmead, Duke's July 28th 2016 lot 232.

Literature: This type of design represents the last phase of the Dr. Wall period. The exotic birds first painted at Chelsea over 20 years previously is typically portrayed.

This fine and detailed piece is in exceptional overall condition with no obvious signs of damage or restoration apart from a minor chip to the foot rim, there is some minor rubbing to the gilding consistent with age (please see additional images)
