There is some wear and scratching visible to both the shank and setting. It is likely that the head of the ring has been reshanked, or indeed made up, as solder lines are evident, there is also evidence of resizing work. The amethyst scarab beetle is fairly crudely pinned into its setting, though the rest of the setting seems to be well shaped to the curves of the piece. It appears to be fairly securely set and does not rattle. The amethyst scarab beetle is well carved with no major losses evident: there are some small chips and abrasions in places.
