William Harry John Messent was born in Morton, Nottinghamshire, on the 17th of December 1898.

During the Great War, he was an Infantryman in the Honourable Artillery Company. He saw active service in France from the 9th of January 1918 until the 11th of November 1918.

He survived the war and passed away in 1987.
