TRAFALGAR INTEREST: A ‘VICTORY OFF TRAFALGAR’ COMMEMORATIVE CARD

decorated with a stylised representation of Nelson’s famous signal, a manuscript presentation to the reverse: 'to the Naval Committee at the Trafalgar Hotel, Norwich, by Mr. P. Scott, October 21st 1842', 19cm x 23cm; together with an early 19th century pencil sketch of HMS Bellerphon, on card, depicted astern of HMS Vanguard, 17cm x 21.5cm (2)

Provenance: The card was purchased from Richard M. Ford Ltd, Antiquarian bookseller, December 2014. The sketch from The Hayhurst Collection, 27th June 2016.

Note: HMS Bellerphon was at the Battle of the Nile and Trafalgar. Napoleon surrendered on board her in 1815. HMS Vanguard was broken up in 1821.
