with a caned back and seat, the “S”-scroll front legs joined by a pierced and carved stretcher and with turned and squared “H”-stretchers, 66cm wide across the arms x 140cm high; a pair of high-backed single chairs of similar design, 134.5cm high x 45.5cm wide across the seat; and another chair with a turned front stretcher (4)

Provenance: According to family records, the pair of chairs appear in a photograph of the Great Hall circa 1914 and another circa 1916.

The single chair with incurved legs bears a label inscribed “Ven House”.

In historic country house condition consistent with age and the materials employed.

Extensive repairs and replacements. All chairs have old worming and repairs to feet. One of the matching pair has significant old worming with a break to the seat rail and a break to the back where the stretcher meets the leg (with missing section of wood).

The additional chair with the lower railing has repairs to the crested rail and reinforcing to the back for support.

All have wear to the caning which has broken loose in places and the joints are loose on all chairs.
