A PAIR OF CHINESE GILT METAL NAIL GUARDS

each bearing character marks, worked in relief with insects, fish and flowers, 8.5cm high; together with another white metal example, similarly with impressed character mark, 5.5cm high (3)

Provenance: Thomas Child (1841 – 1898) was a pioneering photographer who produced a large body of photographs during his time in Beijing during the 1870’s. He was close to the Emperor and the court. The family believe a number of objects were gifts from the Imperial family.

All three appear to be in good overall condition. Some slight wear/tarnishing consistent with age. Some wear to marks. Signs of use around the base where the apertures are tightened around the finger.
