Signed 'Yours very truly Johnston Forbes-Robertson' and heavily underlined, dated 'Dec 3 1887'.Considered the finest Hamlet of the Victorian age and one of the finest actors of his time, this portrait of Forbes-Robertson appears to be an earlier version of many of the photographic representations of him as Hamlet, so readily available as postcards during the period. The artist of this piece is unknown but may even be Forbes-Robertson himself.
