I promised to dine that day at a friend of mine in the country and shall not be able to get back to town before 10 or ½ p 10 o'clock;………I must be deprived of the pleasure to spend the evening in your house and to hear the music which you kindly intended to favour me with…..' signed Felix Mendelsohn Bartoldy; Another in Mendelsohn's hand written as a testimonial 'To Henry William Goodban(?) Esqr., Member of the RoyalAcademy of Music, London,' and a letter from William Crotch (Dr Crotch) the composer and organist to Novello, dated May 16th 1834.
