					MAREVNA (1892-1984) 'Portrait of Marika' head and shoulder cubist portrait of the artist's daughter, signed, c.1962, oil on canvas, 25.5" x 19.5" Marika Rivera Phillips (1919-2010) was the daughter of Marevna and the famous Mexican muralist Diego Rivera (1886-1957) Born in Paris, near her mother's studio in Montparnasse, Marika grew up in the heart of La Ruche - the artists' residence known as "the beehive". The narrow streets nearby buzzed with talent and she remembered meeting Modigliani, Soutine and Picasso "He loved my mother, and I heard he teased my father, saying I was his daughter" - Modigliani and the shy artist Chaim Soutine. Marika married Rodney Phillips in 1949 and moved her family, including Marevna to Athelhampton House.
