DARK-BLUE GLAZED 'PHOENIX' JAR, JIAJING SIX CHARACTER MARK AND OF THE PERIOD, the ovoid body incised with two phoenix in flight among clouds between ruyi and lappet bands, centre-luted, metal neck band, 14cm diam Provenance: E. T Hall Collection, Christie's London, 7th June 2004, lot 51. Exhibited: The World in Monochromes, Oriental Cermaic Society Exhibition 2009, no. 192. Note: for a similar jar without cover see Ayers, John, The Baur Collection, Chinese Ceramics, vol.2 Ming Porcelains and Other Wares, Geneva 1969, no. A169. The author also mentions another example with a cover from H.B Harris Collection in the Victoria and Albert Museum London; also a comparable jar without cover is in the Boston Museum of Fine Arts, (95.680).
