Harry Bruton was born in 1866 in Saint Johns Parish, Manchester, Lancashire. He attested aged 19 on 16th April 1885, giving his occupation as a Weaver. He had previously been a member of the 16th Lancashire Rifle Volunteers. He was posted to the 2nd Battalion the Lancashire Fusiliers.
On 16th April 1897, he re-engaged for four more years, having served in East India from 21st September 1885 until 1st November 1892. Bruton served in South Africa during the Boer from 3rd March 1900 until 14th April 1902, he was awarded the Queens South Africa Medal with bars Cape Colony, Orange Free State, Transvaal and Laing's Nek. Bruton is also entitled to the Kings South Africa Medal with 1901 and 1902 bars.
Discharged on 16th April 1902, having served for seventeen years and one month. He passed away in 1907.
