A MEMORIAL PLAQUE TO CAPTAIN RALPH LEWIS PRATT - 4TH GLOUCESTER REGIMENT.
Ralph Lewis Pratt was born in Pontnewydd, Monmouthshire, in 1875, the son of Edwin Woodhall and Rosa Pratt. His family were employed in boot manufacturing; his father had set up a factory in Kingswood, Bristol, in the early 1880s. Ralph served as Chairman of the Bristol and Kingswood Boot Manufacturer Federation.

Pratt was a
pre-war territorial with the 4th Bn Gloucester Regiment, known as the City of
Bristol Battalion. In civilian life, he was a keen Footballer and Rower.
Captain Pratt
arrived in France in May 1916; he was tragically killed in action on the 18th
of October 1916. He was laid to rest in
Pont-du-Hem Military Cemetery.
