The 93rd being the Sutherland Highlanders, who on the 25th of October 1854 at Baklava, before the large battle, formed the ‘Thin Red Line’ and stood against the superior Russian forces who had been sent to attack. the backplate is stamped PJ Malherbe & Cie / A Liege, this shows the rifle was made in Liege, Belgium under contract by the Russians. The lock is stamped 944 which matches the number on the butt plate ‘944’ along with the Russian Imperial Eagle of Tsar Nicholas I; overall an excellent example and highly collectable
