Alfred Cudmore was born in Plymouth on January 3rd 1870; he enlisted in the Royal Navy on January 3rd 1888. He served in the Second Boer war onboard HMS Monarch and was awarded the Queens' South Africa Medal with Cape Colony Clasp. He was discharged in May 1901.
