Cyril James Hembrow was born in Ashford in 1896. He first served with the 1/5th
Seaforth Highlanders, landing in France on May 1st 1915. A fitter by trade, he transferred to the Royal Flying Corps on September 26th 1916, as an Airman Second Class.

George Lawrence was entitled to a Great War pair. He first served with the Royal Fusiliers before transferring to the Machine Gun Corps (80463). George went on to serve in the Tank Corps (321545)

John William Ellwood was born in Frosterly, Durham, in 1882. He worked in the local quarry and was a member of the Territorial Army, serving with the 1st 6th Bn of the Durham Light Infantry. Ellwood went to
France April 20th 1915 with the Bn and was sadly killed in action six days later on April 26th. He is remembered on the Menin Gate.

John Charles Biles was a Kitchen Attendant from Southampton. He joined the Royal Navy in 1906. He was posted to HMS Bulwark in August 1914 and was killed on November 26th 1914, when the ship exploded due to improperly stored ammunition.

Seven hundred forty-one men were killed, with only a dozen ratings rescued. All the officers were killed in the accident.

Charles Thorne was born in Tipton; he resided and enlisted in Swindon. In civilian life, he had worked as a Labourer on the Railways.
He joined the 7th Bn Wiltshire Regiment and landed in France on September 21st 1915.
The war diaries for the 7th on the April 25th 1917 state;
'On the night of 24th/April 25th the Battalion attacked O1 and O2 trenches, 12th HANTS attacked O3, 10th DEVONS PETIT COURONNE.

Walter Pulteney Koe was born on September 22nd 1877, in Hampton Wick, Middlesex. He entered the Royal Navy as a Midshipman on September 15th 1893.

Committed suicide at Euston Station in 1927.

Francis Ignatius Carvill was born at Haverstock Hill on April 18th 1871. He joined the Royal Navy as a Midshipman in 1886.

William Thomas Greenfield was born in Thornaby in 1864. During the Great War, he was serving as a Donkeyman in the Mercantile Marine. He was sadly killed in action on April 19th 1917, while serving on SS Sowwell. The vessel was a steam cargo ship; she was sunk by German Submarine U-35 170 nautical miles from Gibraltar.

Charles Edmonds was born in Dover in 1891. By trade, he was a Piano Frame Maker. He joined the Royal Navy on January 14th 1910, as a Stoker 2nd Class. During WW1, he served on HMS Undaunted and HMS Coventry. Awarded the LSGC in 1925 and discharged in 1927.

An extremely rare trio with an interesting story. Thomas Smith was born in West Ham, London, in 1895. Smith joined the Royal Navy in May 1913, joining HMS Weymouth in October 1913.

Harry Crossley was a member of the 21st Bn ( Pals) A Company Platoon No4. He was later transferred to the Labour Corps. He survived the war and was discharged in March 1919.

Cecil Francis Saffery was born in Paddington, London, in 1891. At the time of the 1911 census, he was living at 10 Clifton Gardens, Maida Vale, London, and was a Chartered Accountants Assistant. A member of the territorial army in the pre-war years

Thomas landed in France on December 9th 1915. He was taken prisoner of war at St Quentin on March 21st 1918, during Operation Michael. He was discharged after repatriation at the end of the war.

Albert Beeson was born in Colchester in 1895. He served with the 3rd Bn Rifle Brigade during the Great War. He landed in France on June 29th 1915, and sadly died of wounds on 3rd October 1915; he was laid to rest in Poperinghe Cemetery.
